James Barker has worked as a freelance film research consultant and producer/director for UK and overseas film and TV companies since 1980. Specialising in TV history documentaries, his principal director/producer credits include March 0f Time: White Man’s Burden (C4 – 1989), Human Factor: A Time to Take Risks (a profile of Palestinian activist Hanan Ashrawi for ITV 1992), Cold War series for CNN (five episodes out of 24 – Berlin 1948-49, After Stalin 1953-1956, Make Love Not War (USA 1960-1968), Détente 1969-1975 and Star Wars (Reagan/Gorbachev 1983-1988) and Churchill’s Secret Army (C4 – 2000). His credits as a film researcher/assistant producer include Auschwitz and the Allies (BBC – 1982), Flashback: War and Pacifism (C4 – 1983), The Struggles for Poland (C4 – 1987), The Palestinians (C4 – 1988) and Peoples’ Century (BBC – 1995). He also directed the films and audio-visual programmes in the Imperial War Museum’s Holocaust Exhibition, opened in 2000 by HM The Queen, and the Crimes Against Humanity film in the IWM exhibition of the same name, opened in 2002. |
