Collections The BUFVC promotes the use of moving image and sound for learning, teaching and research in further and higher education. It is a membership organisation supported by a core grant from the Higher Education Funding Council for England via the Joint Information Systems Committee. BUFVC has a high reputation for providing specialist information to film and television producers. Membership services include: access to the Information Service and library; copies of the BUFVC’s magazine Viewfinder and publications (available free or at discounted prices); and special membership rates for one-day courses and use of viewing and meeting facilities. The BUFVC also runs a television recording back-up service, recording seven channels of television and retaining some 44,000 hours of output per year for institutions holding an ERA licence. The Council maintains five databases, which are accessible to members and HE/FE. * HERMES: details over 25,000 audio-visual programmes. * Moving Image Gateway: moving image and sound resources on the internet. * Researcher’s Guide Online (RGO): describes 547 radio, moving image and document collections in the UK. * British Universities Newsreel Database (BUND): a leading online resource for information on British cinema newsreels. * Television and Radio Index for Learning and Teaching (TRILT): provides online access pre- and post-transmission to UK television and radio listing information.
