Facilities BBC Studios and Post Production’s Telecine, Grading and Restoration Team pride themselves on their attention to detail and dedication to their work. With over 50 years of experience in both film and video restoration, the team has yielded excellent results, whilst never forgetting how precious the material is.

Our developing technical knowledge and flexibility towards our customers needs has enabled us to build close and trusted relationships right across the UK and Europe. This coupled with our state-of-the-art equipment has allowed us to maximise the full potential of any project.

The quality of archive material can be significantly improved by digitally remastering both sound and vision; revitalising old footage to modern expectations.

Simply put we can...

• Correct the colour of the material to achieve better shot by shot matching, in the case of film we can also reverse the effect of fading and restore the colours to their original brilliance.

• Reduce the appearance of grain on film or noise on video using the latest Digital Video Noise Reduction technology which is essential when preparing material for DVD release.

• Remove the annoying flashes/dropouts on tape and sparkle on film transfers using digital scratch concealment devices. For larger spots or severe film damage we use a Scratchbox unit which removes blemishes frame by frame.

• Clean the film physically prior to the telecine transfer using an Ultrasonic Film Cleaner. This machine passes the film through a safe solvent and bombards it with a sound wave which literally shakes off the surface dirt.

• Improve the sound quality by the careful use of Cedar Audio hardware. This industry standard unit can reduce hiss, clicks and pops quite dramatically.

All of these techniques can be applied to High Definition material as well.

Whether we are dealing with a regional funded project, an entire archive library or a private collector’s 8mm film, we constantly strive to produce the best possible results. We bring a wealth of experience to all the work we do, treating all projects with total commitment and a continuing level of excellence.
