Archives - Are they worth it?

22 September 2010

Pincents Manor Hotel, Pincents Lane, Calcot, Reading

Why do we have archives, is it for legal, commercial or heritage reasons?

Many individuals and organisation maintain archives either for heritage, legal or commercial reasons. Due to lack of funds many of these archives are coming to a state of disrepair. What should or can be done about it to open them up to general use and can the seaming clash between heritage and commerce be resolved. A panel of experts will give their opinions and examples will be shown to justify the cost of recovery and storage.

  • Chair - Sue Malden, Focal International
  • Panel - Steve Bryant, British Film Institute National Archive
  • Panel - Alwyn Lindsay, Associated Press Archive
  • Panel - Paul Maidment, BBC Worldwide Motion Gallery
