Brief Synopsis in English

100 Films & A Funeral is the thrilling story of one man's vision to build a movie studio from the ground up and challenge Hollywood's absolute rule over the international motion picture industry. This innovative feature length documentary chronicles the story of PolyGram Films and some of the greatest films from the final decade of the 20th century, including Four Weddings and a Funeral, Fargo, The Usual Suspects, The Big Lebowski, Bean and Notting Hill. 100 Films tells how these film mavericks helped to change the way stories are told, and sold, in America, in Europe and around the world.

Reason for submission in English

100 Films & A Funeral is the rollicking story of British maverick Michael Kuhn and PolyGram Films’ challenge of Hollywood. To tell this story, Markham Street Films Inc. researched, procured and cleared archival footage from across Europe and North America to present a business story that spans over half a century. Over 400 film clips, 80 movie posters and numerous stills were woven together with specially designed animations to create an innovative, exciting visual template that makes this feature length documentary as dynamic as the film industry itself. Clearances were secured for over 200 celebrities and 50 writers and directors.

Brief Synopsis in English

90 minute autobiographical ride through the life of one of Rock’s greatest icons. Using cutting edge CGI Elton is kidnapped from his show in LasVegas and flown by rocket back through his own life. He re-visits his greatest moments – from his legendary first concert at the Troubadour in LA, his biggest concert at Dodgers stadium, to the FACup final with Watford - blending in archive from seminal moments in his epic life. Exclusive access to Elton, and an unprecedented rummage through rare archive material, the viewer experiences a unique level of intimacy as Elton gives a private insight into his past.

Reason for submission in English

ITV commissioned this idea because they recognised it could reinvent the biographical documentary. They wanted us to concentrate on creating a brand new form of execution incorporating archive footage, innovative use of CGI, green-screen and AfterEffects techniques in order to bring to life the memories of one of the world’s greatest living musical icons. ITV were keen to attract not only Elton John fans but also a wide mainstream audience, which they felt the programme easily achieved. The 90 minute documentary peaked at 3.5m / 19% share, and averaged 3.2m/18% right through to the end of its transmission at 2310.

Brief Synopsis in English

Happy Birthday BAFTA celebrated 60 years of excellence in Film and Television. Film was represented by VT's celebrating decades of film while in TV we celebrated genres. In these VTs we used over 80 Feature Film titles, 45 different episodes for the comedy VT and 36 different dramas. The team had to pay particular attention to make sure the clips where from the nominated shows in the correct year and then find clips that best represented a huge body of work The show was not only retrospective and we would ask you to pay particular attention to the Coronation Street package that worked archive from the past 47 years of Coronation Street into specially shot footage featuring current cast. With such a huge body of work to look at we had to work closely with the team at Coronation Street and their archivist to find witty and memorable clips that could be worked into a specially written storyline

Reason for submission in English

We are submitting this show as we believe this is the first time Coronation Street's footage has been used in this way. We also feel that representing 60 years of film and TV is a tall order but it is a challenge that Cassie Bennitt and the team achieved this in fast paced VTs that did justice to the immense body of work we were working with

Brief Synopsis in English

A tongue-in-cheek “homage” to the perilous but for some highly pleasurable, pursuit of smoking. Featuring A list celebrity interviews and provocative archive footage, "Memoirs of A Cigarette" charts our society's love / hate relationship with the evil weed on the eve of the UK ban on smoking.

Reason for submission in English

Memoirs of a Cigarette used a unique range of both provocative and highly entertaining footage, spanning over 40 years of film and television archive, to ensure the programme would resonate with a wide audience. From WW1 footage, to rare advertising campaigns and government health warnings, to cult television programmes and legendary movies, this programme led us through the incredible highs and ultimate lows of the cigarette in society. Much of the footage was sourced from small independent libraries and private collections and was cleverly used to punctuate opinions of the many high profile celebrities featured. Exhaustive searches to find the best comedy moments featuring smoking through the decades ensured the programme kept an entertaining pace throughout.

Brief Synopsis in English

"Spine Tingler: The William Castle Story" chronicles the last great American showman, filmmaker William Castle, a master of ballyhoo who became a brand name in movie horror with his outrageous audience participation gimmicks. In the 1950s and 60s, Castle treated delighted moviegoers to buzzing seats, flying skeletons, luminescent ghosts and life insurance policies. His is a rags to riches tale of a larger than life showman who climbed his way up the Hollywood ladder by reinventing himself as a modern P.T. Barnum, all the while driven by a fear of failure and a longing to be respected among his peers.

Reason for submission in English

Today, the movie business is run by lawyers and accountants, driven by focus groups, obscenely high budgets, and a global distribution network that simply didn’t exist in Castle’s heyday. Show business today places the emphasis on the business, but oftentimes neglects the show. Through pure showmanship and the force of his own personality, Castle made audiences feel they were part of something truly unique that they would remember for the rest of their lives. Our unique, highly animated use of stock footage, film clips, and stills reflects this sentiment.

Brief Synopsis in English

Loved by audiences, loathed by critics, ‘Allo ‘Allo was a celebration of the gloriously silly and un-PC tradition of British comedy. Inspired by the drama Secret Army, the premise was nothing if not brave eliciting comedy from the Nazi occupation of wartime France. Audiences loved it from the off and millions tuned in to watch a masterpiece of low camp that ran for 9 series. This programme brought their story up to date with a new episode and documentary on the history of the series and its participants, allowing for a re-appraisal of the show reminding everyone of its quality.

Reason for submission in English

An unusual programme, celebrating a much loved series by marrying a documentary on it’s creation and history, which revisited the show and participants, with a new episode bringing the characters up to date before a live studio audience. The Programme combined elements of comedy, documentary and drama within one entertainment show, allowing for a re-appraisal of the show reminding everyone of its quality.
