Brief Synopsis in English (up to 100 words):

Taking ‘reduce, re-use and recycle’ as its mantra this innovative short film tells the story of recycling using 100% recycled footage.

The cyclical story goes from the necessity that drove the ‘make do and mend’ culture of WW2 through the consumer boom of the 50’s, the emergence of the green movement in the 70’s (including footage of the UK’s first bottle bank opening in Barnsley), the throwaway culture of the 80s and 90s right up to the challenges of scarce resources and a growing eco-consciousness.

Reason for submission in English (up to 100 words):

Drawing on our passion for working with archive footage we have trawled international libraries and developed a technique of editing using layers of footage and sounds to create a visually arresting final film. It is designed as a multi-platform celebration of what can be done with archive footage and as an example of how a new and evocative narrative can be created from seemingly disparate clips. We love working with archive and are always looking for new and innovative ways to use it to tell stories.

Brief Synopsis in English

Somewhere in a parallel universe strange things are happening. Did George Bush really say Donald Rumsfeld was a menace? Does Patricia Hewitt normally admit Tony Blair is having a baby? Does Cliff Richard really terrorise children? And why is Barbara Woodhouse admitting she is sex obsessed? Welcome aboard the mixed up, messed up, mucked up world of mash-TV as the Don’t Watch That Watch This team get their teeth into the archive.

Reason for submission in English

The original 'mashed-up' archive programme - showing how old film footage can be reworked and reinvented.

Brief Synopsis in English

Heroes Unmasked’ is a documentary series made especially for BBC2. Shot exclusively in LA, ‘Unmasked’ takes a behind the scenes look at all aspects of the global phenomenon that is Heroes. Unmasked leaves no hero unturned, with never seen before interviews, access and insight from the cast, crew and creative talent of THE televisual success story of 2007. In 'Turning Tides' for the first time, Heroes Unmasked takes a Bennet’s eye view to reveal where the web of lies and deceit all began, for that morally grey paper salesman who we love to hate. Featuring fantastic backstage footage of Bennet’s world going up in flames, ‘Turning Tides’ hears from Mr Horn Rimmed Glasses himself Jack Coleman, and his on screen friends and foes, as they share the delights and dramas of filming scenes that were as shocking for the cast as they were for the audience.

Reason for submission in English

With the 21 x 15 minute series of Heroes Unmasked recently coming to an end, it was felt that the series throughout became the ideal companion to Heroes. The series maintained a breadth of interest and entertainment throughout, using a range of archive in new and dramatic ways to tell the stories of the perspective of the cast and production team behind the scenes. This episode 'Turning Tides' illustrates this well, with dramatic editing, imaginative use of music and graphics to enhance the drama and emotion of the characters, whilst giving an insight into the scale and complexity of shooting Heroes, with live on set action interweaving seamlessly with the final footage. From audience feedback, Unmasked was enjoyed in equal measure to Heroes itself, giving an extra dimension to this extraordinary series and it is hoped that the use and adaptation of the archive warrants further consideration from the panel.

Brief Synopsis in English

Through the use of stock footage this video takes the viewer on a journey through the hopeful events of the last fifty years. Starting with the first moon landing, through sports triumphs like Muhammad Ali and Pele, to the Women's Movement, the fall of the Berlin Wall and the tank stand off at Tieneman Square to today where the two Democratic frontrunners for President are a woman and an African American. This video tells us "How Far We've Come". Inspiring figures like Muhammad Ali, Pele, Princess Diana, Presidents Kennedy and Clinton and Vice President Al Gore are featured with triumphant events like the women's movement, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the tank stand-off at Tieneman Square and the Y2K celebrations around the world, all with Matchbox 20 playing in the foreground.

Reason for submission in English

We are submitting this video because it is a celebration of our proudest moments as we struggle to remain hopeful for mankind's future. While singing that the "world is burning to the ground" Matchbox 20 reminds us that we put a man on the moon, brought down the Berlin Wall and have come together as a planet to fight global warming. This video inspires the best in humanity.
