Brief Synopsis in English

We see archive of the Rugby World Cup Final, 2003. As the players walk out, fans are screaming ecstatically. Yet on closer inspection, the fans realise that the players are imposters. A voice informs: "You'd never pay good money to watch a bunch of imposters; so why would you ever consider paying for fake merchandise or match tickets from unofficial sources ". The voice continues over pictures of more disappointed fans that have bought fake strip or counterfeit tickets. The message is further highlighted by a clever play on words: "Avoid disappointment. Don't be sold a dummy."

Reason for submission in English

Dummy is a rights protection awareness video. The audience is tricked into believing that what they are watching is the beginning of the rugby world cup final by means of cleverly intercutting archive footage and shot material (and utilising green- screen), thus a clear contender for the 'Best use of footage in a corporate...'. The audience realises that the players lined-up are actually imposters. The 'archive trickery' brings the full impact of the message directly to the audience in a funny and therefore effective way. Fans are cleverly made aware of the risk of buying fake merchandise and tickets.

Brief Synopsis in English

KNTV Philosophy is an alternative take on the life and work ten great philosophers. Kierkegaard and Nietzsche (K&N) are two teenagers from the fictional country of Slabovia, which is the last remaining communist state in Europe. As they say, “when the Iron Curtain fell, Slabovia was under it”. K&N broadcast their pirate TV show from an abandoned government warehouse where they have found all sorts of crazy archive footage. They use this footage to illustrate what each philosopher’s “Big Idea” was all about, as well as to show us who these guys really were. This ten part “genre bending” series explores the philosophies of great minds such as Einstein, Newton, Darwin and Marx.

Reason for submission in English

KNTV Philosophy is an educational programme that speaks to teenagers on their level, mashing 3D animation and archive footage to get across complex philosophical principles. And it’s all underscored with humour. Whether it’s a clip of a riderless motorbike to illustrate Einstein’s theory of relativity or someone throwing a TV off a high building to convey Newton’s laws of motion, this show uses ISKRA’s “Slabo” archive in a unique, entertaining way to get the point across. The archive is nutty, Eastern-European blooper clips, but the educational element is high-brow. Totally compelling stuff!

Brief Synopsis in English

Mobile phones have finally come of age as multimedia devices and Nokia see this as something truly liberating. The opportunities created by the internet have caused us to become much more isolated as it is largely a solitary activity. But mobile phones now allow us to go back out into the world taking with us all that the internet has to offer. This film shows how our fascination with media has defined several pivotal stages in the development of our society and the mobile device represents a whole new era.

Reason for submission in English

This film has truly captured how Nokia sees its role in society. Nokia is a company that genuinely believes it exists to make a difference. This film encapsulates our relationship with screen based media and shows the potential that mobile devices have to change our consumption and experience of this type of media. In short, however, we like the film and it has gone down a storm.

Brief Synopsis in English

A retelling of the iconic events of the Islamic revolution in Iran and an exploration of the political context in which it occurred and the events that followed.

Reason for submission in English

This film draws on a variety of sources of archive material to reconstruct the revolution and in doing so is a comprehensive and dramatic analysis of the events of the time. There is significantly pertinent usage of strong imagery and sound, often with a creatively interpretive flair. The film is set in a time when the BBC had unprecedented access to Iran. The footage poetically and expressively tells of the opulence of the dictatorial Shah, the violent uprising against him and the iconic persona of the supplanting Ayatollah Khomeini.

Brief Synopsis in English

Video content description: 2007 has been a year of expansion for Calidad Certificada label. The first  Andalusian Agri-food Fair Andalucía Sabor, the firs Customer Relationship Management Program, the notoriety obtained in the sector… The video is an expression of that concept. We start with a dream image of a dandelion, upon which you can blow in order to make a wish: “to go beyond”. From that moment we fly over a succession of aerial images showing urban and natural landscapes, with the message “beyond frontiers, beyond customs”. 2007 is introduced as the expansion year, and then the main activities are described.

Voice over: They say that some fruits are magic, that they hide a secret which breaks after you blow upon them sending their seeds into the wind. They say that  this breath raises a wish and a hope which always comes true.
New horizons, new challenges, to go beyond… Growing, always growing, beyond men, beyond frontiers, beyond limits. There’s nothing which can prevent our dreaming of opening doors, minds, customs... Imagine to be able to go beyond. A journey outside which begins with a deep knowledge of oneself in order to be... increasingly strong.

Brief Synopsis in English

Directed by award winning filmmaker Jes Benstock this corporate film was produced for Pictet Asset Management, the institutional asset management arm of Pictet & Cie, to educate and promote 'Socially Responsible Investment' which places environmental concerns, social issues and good corporate governance at the centre of our investment decisions. Climate change has become one of the central debates of global politics. Is it possible to invest ‘sustainably’ without sacrificing returns? Whether the causes are man-made, or a fact of nature, active concern for the environment is vital for the future of human life on the planet.

Reason for submission in English

Producing this film would not have been possible without extensive use of exceptionally high quality and diverse stock footage. For this reason we felt it was an excellent example of how stock footage can be used to create powerful, impactful films within the constraints of a limited budget. In addition, Pictet Asset Management are delighted with the film and have found it an excellent communication tool for promoting socially responsible investment.
