Jim Clark was quite simply one of the greatest racing drivers that ever lived. Hugely popular, his untimely death whilst competing in 1968 shocked the world. Despite his achievements Clark was a shy, modest man, ill at ease with his fame. A small town kid from the Scottish Borders, he was destined to become the best of the best, but not without controversy and tragedy. Constructed from a rich vein of rare archive material and interviews with those close to him, Jim Clark – The Quiet Champion is an intimate, emotive and definitive portrait of an extraordinary man.
Reason Archive is especially important when the subject of the programme is no longer alive. Consequently great efforts were made to source footage from all possible avenues, ranging from international commercial libraries to home movies of family and close friends. Only then did a full picture emerge, creating the foundation and soul of this film. This material was then crafted in such a way so as to not just simply tell the story of a national hero, but maximise the emotions of the sport in which he competed and the spirit of the times in which he lived.

February 14th 1984 was the day the nation fell in love with Torvill and Dean when they won Olympic Gold for their ice dance to 'Bolero'. But just how did a policeman and an insurance clerk from find their way into our hearts? This one hour documentary shows how these two very special, talented yet ordinary people became the country's sweethearts. Observational documentary coupled with rare archive and interview, this is a show that will leave everyone who watches it feeling proud to be British, and for many, bring back memories of a monumental occasion.
The archive unearthed for Bolero – much of it exclusively - was absolutely crucial in bringing to life the story of Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean. The archive pictures generated the sense of nostalgia on which the whole show was predicated. Viewers were familiar with their gold-medal winning performance at the Winter Olympics but had never before seen the training footage – much of it shot on film - at home and abroad. This was real behind-the-scenes stuff which was complemented by the footage of Jayne with her former partner and of Christopher in his day job as a policeman.
