'READ MY LIPS'
at BAFTA in association with SONY
, SKILLSET & THE RADIO TIMES
A Celebration of the History Project
dedicated to recording the experiences
and working lives of practitioners
throughout the film and broadcasting
industries.

READ MY LIPS is a full day and evening
event celebrating the achievements
of the BECTU History Project. It will
provide a platform and forum to describe
the existing and planned activities
of the project and the partnerships
with individuals and institutions,
which underpin them.
During the day SONY will present
a major equipment and seminar training
event and High Definition technology
update for everyone in the industry.
This will be complemented by a comprehensive
information resource on the careers
advice, training and professional
development opportunities provided
through Skillset, the Sector Skills
Council for the Industry and Skills
for Media.
The BECTU History Project 'Read
My Lips' will be the main event of
the evening to be held in the Princess
Anne Theatre to which leading figures
from the film and television industry,
education and politics will be invited.
Hosted by Esther Rantzen, the evening
event jointly sponsored by SONY and
The Radio Times with the support of
Skillset will showcase exerts from
Project interviews with big screen
demonstrations of the current partnership
projects being undertaken by the Project,
the education sector, the British
Film Institute, the British Universities
Film & Video Council, the University
of East Anglia and other partners,
both individual and institutional.

Business Europe's President, Miles
Flint and Carlton's Clive Jones are
tabled to speak alongside Richard
Paterson from the BFI and webmasters
from the BUFVC and the University
of East Anglia whose new websites
use History project material.
The History Project was established
in 1987 by a group of enthusiasts
who realized some of the great names
in the industry had passed away without
any lasting record of their achievements,
The History Project is an ongoing
organization run entirely by volunteers
that to date has recorded 560 interviews
with people who work in front and
behind the camera in film and television.
Backed and house by the Industry Union
BECTU since its inception by veteran
union members and recorded with the
support of SONY's resources and technology
over the years. The History Project
has created strong partnerships with
the industry and the archive is now
one of the most valuable assets in
the country. Project Vice Chair, Roy
Lockett promises 'an enjoyable evening
as we demonstrate through video and
audio recordings the richness and
delight of our industry's history.'
