CNN OPENS
VIDEO NEWS ARCHIVE SALES OFFICE IN
LONDON
CNN ImageSource,
the video licensing division of CNN,
is opening a London office to build
on the growing demand for unique news
footage in Europe, Africa and the
Middle East. CNN ImageSource has a
historic archive of material from
more than 20 years of award winning
coverage and, with an increasing number
of customers based outside the United
States, this new development will
enable the division to improve their
international service to clients.
International stories
that have been in high demand from
production companies have included
CNN's coverage of the Gulf Wars in
1991 and 2003, the terrorist attacks
of September 11 , 2001, and the ensuing
war in Afghanistan. Popular shots
from the news archives include the
fall of the Berlin Wall and the uprising
in Tiananmen Square when a lone man
stopped a row of tanks directly in
front of the CNN cameras.
"By operating out
of CNN's London offices we open ourselves
up for a potential new client base
by being available during European
business working hours. It will help
provide a relevant service within
the same time zone as our international
clients, improving and developing
the support we can offer our customers,"
said Tony Maddox, senior vice president,
CNN International Europe, Middle East
and Africa.
CNN has hired Ray
Sidwell, former director of library
sales for BBC Worldwide in New York,
to run the new office. Sidwell will
be developing closer working relationships
with production houses across Europe,
providing customer service within
the region. This is the first stage
in the international expansion of
CNN ImageSource.
