Prizes Galore
for NHNZ - Natural History New Zealand
Natural History
New Zealand has scored a triple whammy
at this year's Naturvision - a major
European wildlife film festival held
in Munich, Germany.
NHNZ out-classed
149 other programmes to scoop Naturvision's
Grand Prix award for its 50 minute
documentary "The Case of the
Baby-Faced Assassin" which reveals
the secretive lives of Australia's
carnivorous marsupial; the spotted-tailed
quoll. A further two awards - the
Best Innovation Prize and the Youth
Jury Prize were won by NHNZ's "Tropic
Gothic" a fascinating documentary
showing how a tropical forest's bizarre
and beautiful tenants come to inhabit
a human realm - an abandoned settler's
cottage in Far North Queensland.
NHNZ's excellence
in science programming will also be
celebrated at this year's Image et
Science conference, after being one
of four television companies in the
world to be invited to compete for
the prestigious Prix Jules Verne.
The Prix Jules Verne is an esteemed
award, which recognises the quality
of science programmes and a company's
quest for innovation in the field
of scientific and technical culture
and information. It is a great honour
to be nominated for the Prix Jules
Verne and NHNZ's Manging Director
Michael Stedman believes it is a fitting
compliment to the talent of the whole
NHNZ team.
NHNZ is represented
in the United Kingdom and Eire by
Film Images (London).
