Footage Training Week
from archive to exploitation!
was held 4-8 July 2005, London
The week long course was attended by 12 delegates from 5 countries and its success was marred only by the London bombings which caused the Summer Networking Event aboard HMS Belfast to be postponed until Sept 22nd.
Designed for anyone from anywhere in the world who needs to know more about the footage industry. There was plenty of hands-on training - learning the history of different film and tape formats, how to lace then up and edit a simple film at Imperial War Museum. The National Film Archive, Getty Images, APTN Library, ITN Archive, BBC Resource Central and BSkyB all provided tours of their operations and an insight to their working world.
Footage training and an appreciation of International copyright law was covered, and facility houses Metro Broadcast, TMR and Dubbs all opened up their doors for presentations of restoration, conversions, transfers, digitisation, encoding.
and for a piece of light relief......the FOCAL Quiz Night held in June
Question master Dick Fiddy was joined by Nathalie Banaigs, Moving Image Communications (left) and Véronique Foucault, APTN Library who had helped set the questions and put together a clip reel to really test the competitors.
Not phased by the level of questioning, it was good to see The 8 Sided Anorak team from Octagon CSI ousting the BFI from their usual winning place.
Runners up - the team from facilities house TMR
In 3rd place, APTN Library's team If you are AP and you know it led by Véronique Foucault (far left)
Julie Lewis & Anne Johnson
