DOCLAB Intensive Filmmaking Course (19 Oct - 2 Nov)
DOCLAB is an intensive course taught by award-winning industry professionals that gives you the skills you need to pursue your career in documentary filmmaking. You will gain essential technical skills on industry standard HDV cameras, sound equipment and digital editing software. Through researching and making your own documentary under the expert guidance of our tutors, you will gain knowledge of and insight into the documentary production process to get the edge in this highly competitive industry. By the end of the course you will also have your own film. Places are limited, so early booking is recommended!
DFG Saturday School: Getting Started in Documentary (10 Oct) - 2-5pm
Whether you're just starting out in the world of television or making films for love or money outside of broadcast, it can be a bit of an uphill struggle making the leap into becoming a fully-fledged documentary filmmaker working in the business. Over one afternoon, DFG will give you the insider tips to give your career a kick start, from navigating the television career ladder to the opportunities outside broadcast, and how to make the most of your short film. We'll talk fast and allow time for clips and questions too
Directing and Interviewing Masterclass: 15-16 October
Hone both your directing and interviewing techniques with this two-day intensive workshop. Through hands-on practical exercises (using a Sony Z1 camera) and team-work you will get to grips with basic documentary styles, and how to work independently as well as in a small crew. Participants will be introduced to a range of different interview styles and techniques, and through practical exercises and demonstration you will explore the core skills involved in this process including the golden rules of open questioned interviewing, how to prepare an interview and how to bring out the best in your subjects.
Intensive Production Management Weekend: 17-18 Oct
Do you want to upgrade your skills as a Production Manager in factual television? Or are you a producer looking to manage the production of your own documentary? On our Production Management Weekend you'll undertake in-depth practical training in planning, scheduling and budgeting for factual programming and documentaries and the various complex issues they raise.

Funding Your Documentary: Wed 21 Oct
With so many emerging funding and distribution options, which are the best routes to pursue for your particular project? Opportunities for funding can be found not only through television but through various other sources, including online TV and exploiting the new opportunities for cross and multi-platform documentary projects. This one-day workshop guides you through the landscape of documentary funding including: commissioning in the UK and overseas, international finance and co-production, grants, foundations and alternative ways of funding; new models of funding for cross -platform/multi platform projects; self- financed films.
