Your Invitation to Take Part in The Independent Review of Film Policy in The UK

9 August 2011

Your opportunity to participate

The independent review of film policy is chaired by Chris Smith, comissioned by the DCMS, and is well underway with its consultation. At the DCMS’s request, the BFI is leading on one of the review’s objectives looking at audience development, education, film heritage and archiving.

We invite you to attend a discussion session to put forward your views, in particular we will be exploring the following areas:

• How best to increase audience demand for film – including independent British film
• How to maximise the impact of film education
• How to increase UK-wide access to Britain’s film and TV heritage
• What environment is needed to help inspire new generations to learn about film and film culture

The sessions will be hosted by the BFI's Cultural Director, Heather Stewart, and Deputy Chief Executive, Tim Cagney.

13:00, Tuesday 23 August - The Roxy Room, Tyneside Cinema , 10 Pilgrim Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 6QG

13:00, Thursday 25 August - NFT 3, BFI Southbank, Belvedere Road, Waterloo, London , SE1 8XT

The policy review is critical to shaping the future of film in the UK – this is your chance to be part of it and to make sure your voice is heard. The views and ideas from both sessions will be fed back into the independent panel of film experts who are working with Chris Smith. The panel will publish its report in December and the Government is expected to respond early in the new year.
