British Movietonews, has completed digitising all of its historical newsreel footage, enabling previews and delivery of broadcast quality material worldwide within the hour, all via its new website
London, UK, 08 November - British Movietone News Ltd, one of the world’s largest newsreel archives, has taken on Ranieri Communications to handle the re-launch of its online newsreel archive. British Movietone’s digital archive contains newsreel footage covering most of the major events of the 20th Century, principally from 1929-1979. All footage is now available in the industry standard MPEG2, broadcast quality digital format. The entire collection can now be previewed and accessed on the updated British Movietonews website.
Pietro Ranieri, Managing Director of Ranieri Communications commented: “We are excited to be part of the British Movietonews re-launch. British Movietonews, which was the first newsreel company to offer “sound newsreels” in the United Kingdom, is once again pioneering with exciting new technology that will have a major impact on the industry. One of the issues of newsreel footage archives is the time it takes to preview and then finally deliver the material in the correct broadcast standard to international markets – British Movietonews, solves that issue”
British Movietone is about to change all this with its new updated website. The website allows you to search by keyword, identify the footage you want, view it online and then request it immediately. The broadcast quality footage can be delivered anywhere in the world in the hour via the Internet utilizing specialised software that allows transfers at a speed of up to 10Mps per second. This pioneering service has been enabled because British Movietone has copied ALL of its archives to the MPEG 2 digital format, which means that all of its archives can be searched online and then delivered over the internet using a dedicated fibre optic line. The new website will be launched in the coming weeks.
