Remarkable first hand footage of the war in Spain shot in vibrant colour will be shown for the first time on Spanish television in April.
“Defenders of the Faith” is a feature length documentary shot in 1936 and 1937 by American filmmaker Russell Palmer. The film will be shown in its entirety on Spain's TVE, (their equivalent of the BBC) to mark the 70th anniversary of the war with an accompanying studio discussion about this unique historical document.
Film Images in London represent worldwide sales of “Defenders of the Faith” and “The War in Spain” a shorter film by the same filmmaker. They also have access to “They Died Standing” the unpublished memoirs of Russell Palmer. Together these artefacts present a vivid account of civil war from the front line.
A low resolution 3 minute “taster” clip of the footage is available to view online.
Programme makers interested in viewing the taster or indeed the whole film should contact email@example.com
