EDN (European Documentary Network) has appointed a new director. Leena Pasanen, 40, takes over after Tue Steen Müller, who after 9 years in the seat has chosen to go free lance as a documentary consultant and teacher in Europe.
Leena Pasanen leaves a job as Head of Programmes at the Finnish digital channel YLE Teema. In this capacity she has since 2000 built up a strong reputation as one of the most internationally orientated and engaged European commissioning editors, especially known for her support to new talent.
Leena Pasanen joined YLE in 1993, first as a reporter, subeditor and presenter of a current affairs magazine programme. Later she became Head of in-house documentaries at YLE TV1. Her basic international documentary knowledge she obtained through participation in the Eurodoc training programme 1999-2000. As an expert and tutor Leena Pasanen has been called upon from workshops organised by Discovery Campus, Television Business School, Eurodoc and EDN.
"I feel like I am a child of EDN having been to so many of the workshops of the association", says Leena Pasanen. "I am very happy and honored to be given this job".
Chairman of EDN, Ike Bertels says: "Leena Pasanen has in a very few years profiled herself as a committed commissioning editor who carries a deep respect for independent documentary filmmaking. She knows the work of EDN in details so there was no doubt among the members of the Executive Committee that she was the right person for this important job".
Leena Pasanen starts in her new position at the Copenhagen-based office by 1st of November. Tue Steen Müller stops by the end of December.
EDN started in 1996 and has now around 750 members from more than 50 countries. The association provides members with information about the European documentary market, publishes the DOX Magazine, the EDN TV Guide, organises workshops and conferences with the support of the EU MEDIA Programme and in collaboration with local and regional partners. Members are production companies, filmmakers, directors, festival organisers, broadcasters, film institutes and other documentary professionals.
