	Employers Guide to Film Researchers

	The following are the basic tasks that all FOCAL Individual Researcher Members are qualified to carry out. However, it is vital that employers should acquaint Film Researchers with details of budgets and production schedules when discussing the fee and general conditions of employment.

	1) advise on total costs for research, technical transfers & royalties according to the rights required
	2) locate suitable footage
	3) provide viewing material for the producer
	4) identify third party clearances and costs
	5) cost the footage chosen by the producers
	6) license the clips for the rights required by the broadcaster
	7) transfer chosen clips to master material
	8) provide detailed logs of all tape / film transfers
	9) provide details of footage used, licences and clearances obtained, and all supporting documentation for the post-production log
	issue footage returns to the libraries/archives or other rights holders

	All these tasks can be completed by the researcher only if the producer or production company agrees to pay the researcher in the event that the budget for research has been exhausted.

	Employers are asked to inform unsuccessful applicants when the vacancy has been filled.
