The Jane Mercer Footage Training Bursary

In memory of Jane Mercer, FOCAL International has established the Jane Mercer Footage Training Bursary. The bursary is intended to provide assistance to those wishing to further their professional development in the footage industry and its associated areas.  FOOTAGE TRAINING WEEK

1-5 June, 2009

- from archive to exploitation -

A week long course designed for anyone from anywhere in the world who needs to know more about the footage industry - image archivists, footage researchers, production managers, producers, directors – whatever your media background, learn how to expand your knowledge and appreciation of the world of footage archives, their systems and uses.

* Imperial War Museum Film & Video Archive

* ITN Source * British Movietonews *BBC Motion Gallery * BBC Information Archives

* bfi's John Paul Getty Conservation Centre

* Summer networking event

Includes:

Full schedule of lectures and seminars presented by leading industry professionals

Topics covered:

* History of film and tape formats - hands-on!

* Principles of Digital Archive Management and Digital Rights Management, Metadata and cataloguing

* Technical production processes involving footage

* End to end footage research

* Principles of rights clearance

* International Copyright Law affecting the footage industry including Fair Use vs Fair Dealing and new plartforms

* The Producer's Perspective

* Use and Abuse of Footage

The cost of the course is £850 + VAT (early bird rate of £750 + VAT applies on all bookings made before 1st March 2009). Includes seminars, lunches, some transport between training venues, plus social event. Accommodation NOT included.
