CHAIR – FOCAL International

FOCAL International seeks a new Chair Person. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years experience in the Media industry. They will have a passion for the audio-visual industry with a proven tract record at managerial level and experience of committee work. Ideally, the candidate will be an experienced public speaker. They will be able to work independently as well as in a team and be able to work from home with a PC and have good working knowledge of Word/Excel/email and the Internet. They should demonstrate a willingness and determination to lead a number of key projects.

About FOCAL International

FOCAL was formed in 1985 as an international, non-profit making, professional trade association limited by guarantee. It represents commercial film/audiovisual, stills and sound libraries as well as interested individuals such as facility houses, professional film researchers and producers working in the industry.

Key Objectives

To act as the Executive and organisations’ spokesperson both to the membership and to the outside World.
To chair regular Executive meetings and manage the agenda.
To co-ordinate the activities of the Office Management Team, Committees and Working Groups.

Main Duties:

Lead the Executive in exercising its responsibilities by attending and chairing regular Executive meetings and managing the agenda in a fair and productive manner.
Act as the guardian of members’ interests by overseeing the implementation of the Executive’s annual strategy and business plan and then reporting to the membership at the AGM.
Manage key relationships within the organisation by co-ordinating and collating the reports from the Office Management Team, Executive appointed officials (Treasurer and Secretary), Committees and Working Groups, attending the editorial Committee of the FOCAL journal Archive Zones and liaising with overseas affiliated groups .
Attend FOCAL and other trade events both in the UK and overseas as requested by the Executive.
Undertake any other duties, which may reasonably be required from time to time.

Terms and Conditions

Attendance at all regular Executive board meetings and the AGM.
This position is non-executive (carrying no voting rights).
The contract is for 12 months, with August unpaid.
You should be equipped with your own computer installed with Microsoft Office and have a broadband connection.
4 days work per month is required – this includes attendance at meetings and events. In addition to this you should be contactable at all times by phone or email as part of an ad hoc commitment to FOCAL International.
The rate of pay is to be agreed plus reasonable expenses for phone, travel & accommodation as agreed with the Executive.
Payment is monthly, in arrears.
Notice period of two months on both sides.
Once established this position would be reviewed annually.
