AP Archive has won an exclusive worldwide deal to manage the archive footage sales business of Sky News. The deal adds more than 15,000 hours of award-winning news footage to AP Archive’s portfolio, which currently includes the collections of other major broadcasters such as the USA’s ABC News.
Sky News, one of the three main UK newsgatherers since 1989, will add a considerable amount of UK news & stock footage to AP Archive’s global content as well as contributing Sky’s own footage of major international events.
Alwyn Lindsey, who heads up AP Archive says that this will redefine the news footage market; “This deal is incredibly significant. Not only can we use our international reach to open up new markets for Sky News footage, but it creates a new `one-stop-shop` in the UK. We’ll be providing a real alternative in the market by offering an exceptional content-set backed up by competitive pricing and premium service levels”.
The text database for the Sky News collection has been published online for the first time and this initial stage of the collaboration gives researchers the ability to independently browse Sky News’ most recent rushes, with access to cut stories & more rushes added on a daily basis.
AP Archive plans to add digitised Sky News footage to its web site in early 2008
Nic Peters, Head of Sky News Library, said, “Sky News’ award winning crews have covered & captured footage from all UK major stories & international events since 1989. We are delighted to partner with AP Archive whose global delivery network will enable us to showcase our largely unseen collection to a wider audience.”
