blue is currently undergoing a period of significant expansion as part of a major investment programme by VTR plc.
Backed by the substantial capital investment provided by Prime Focus Limited, blue has embarked on a series of installations and technical upgrades that have been complimented with key personnel appointments.
As a major part of this plan, blue is now progressing with the integration of sister company TMR (The Machine Room Limited) into its Old Compton Street and Dean Street buildings. This will allow blue to offer a range of additional services including digital asset management and encoding, video and audio restoration and expansive dedicated duplication facilities, all under the ‘blue’ banner and complimenting the existing post production services.
The move also boosts the grading services with TMR’s Spirit and HD grading facilities being relocated into blue’s facility as an addition to the existing SD tape grading offering. The integration will also allow blue to further bolster its HD offering with the addition of a substantial array of HD VTRs alongside the installation of a third HD DS Nitris.
blue is also currently upgrading its sound studios with a complete technical refit revolving around the Digidesign Icon series. All 3 suites are being upgraded whilst additional tracklay facilities are being installed within the main building at 58 Old Compton Street.
The 5.1 surround facilities are based around the 32 fader Icon D-Control mixing console with surround panning and multiple Dolby processors allowing the creation of surround mixes in Dolby E and Dolby Pro Logic 2 formats. The upgrade also includes the very latest version of ProTools (v7.3) & Waves 360 Surround plug-ins.
A major upgrade of the AVID offline set-up has seen blue’s capacity grow to 26 suites backed by a 20 Terabyte Editshare with all suites based at its Old Compton Street and Dean Street facilities, including a dedicated floor for its own AVID editors.
As a part of this growth, blue has expanded its in-house AVID team by appointing former Final Cut editor and Godman/HSI director, Jake Wynne as Offline Editor. Jake’s editing credits include music promos for Robbie Williams, All Saints and Spice Girls whilst he was a BTA winner for his work on Lucozade ‘Mods’ for Vaughan Arnell.
“The addition of an editor of Jake’s experience to our team is indicative of our commitment to providing quality creative talent for our clients.” said blue Managing Director, Simon Briggs. ”His editing track record speaks for itself and his pedigree as a director means that he can offer a unique level of creative input to projects.”
Since joining blue, Jake has already worked on several music promos for HSI and Crossroads as well as the Girls Aloud and Sugababes “Walk this Way” promo for Comic Relief.
Managing Director, Simon Briggs, said “This is an exciting time for both blue and the Prime Focus Group. The investment capital provided by Prime Focus has allowed us to further expand our facilities and enhance our offering to both our existing and burgeoning client bases.”
“Broadcast remains a very competitive market but one in which we have a proven track record and reputation for quality work that we will continue to enhance as we move forward.”
“This investment demonstrates our commitment to providing quality HD and SD Broadcast post facilities and will allow us to maintain our focus as the Group’s specialist broadcast post house whilst perfectly complimenting the Group’s other activities. The integration of the TMR facilities will enable us to compliment our existing post production services whilst offering clients a unique combination of comprehensive video, audio and online services.”
