BBC Motion Gallery footage was recognised at the FOCAL awards last night, as Kenn Rabin, the archive researcher on Good Night, and Good Luck* walked off with the award for 'Best Use of Footage in a Feature Film'.
Rabin approached BBC Motion Gallery, which represents the entire CBS News Archive, to provide the Oscar®-nominated film with over twenty minutes of vital footage for the film, including poignant news material from "See it Now" and Edward R. Murrow's celebrated "Person to Person".
Paul Maidment, Business Development & Marketing Director, BBC Motion Gallery, said: "I would like to congratulate Kenn Rabin on his win. I would also like to thank him for coming to BBC Motion Gallery and working with us on this enormously successful project. It's wonderful that prestigious awards such as these recognise and reward the crucial role archive footage so often plays in today's film and television market."
As well as being exclusive global representative for the CBS News archive, BBC Motion Gallery distributes content for public service broadcasters NHK (Japan) and ABC (Australia) and offers more than a million hours of film. Its archive covers more than 110 years of footage including history, events, music, social scenes, wildlife and sport.
On accepting the award, Kenn Rabin read out a note of thanks from the director, George Clooney.
JWT, who licensed footage from BBC Motion Gallery for their HSBC 'Gorillas' advertisement, were also nominated for 'Best Use Of Footage In A Commercial'. BBC Motion Gallery had contributed content to 8 of the 13 programmes that won an award at last night’s event.
