3 April 2006
APTN Library, the footage sales business of the Associated Press has been renamed. The new brand is AP Archive.
The rebranding signals AP's intent to relaunch and grow its footage business and coincides with the launch of a new and improved web site. Speaking of the move, Alwyn Lindsey (Head of AP Archive) said,
"Our footage business has enjoyed healthy growth in recent years, but given the unparalleled quality and breadth of our archive, the extensive scope of AP's international newsgathering and our global delivery infrastructure, there's much more potential to grow. The new name is more than just a facelift and represents the first step in a series of substantial initiatives designed to further improve our overall service to customers."
The new look website will be located at www.aparchive.com and will be live on Monday 3rd April. It utilises the Autonomy search engine and will enable customers to source footage with greater precision than ever before. More sophisticated functionality will be provided so users can save searches and utilise their own workspace on the site. The new site will be further enhanced in 2007 by the roll out of a new digital asset management system that will enable users to see a vast amount of AP Archive video online. Commenting on AP Archive's online plans, Lindsey said,
"We are certainly embracing the advantages that technology brings to our customers and the online user experience will undoubtedly be enhanced. What we won't be changing however, is our core philosophy that the footage business is ultimately about people and irrespective of technological advancements, we will always provide the personal touch for which we are so well renowned".
