CANNES, October 6: The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) and Gaumont Pathé Archives have signed a mutual representation deal for their respective stock shot libraries.
The NFB will serve as the exclusive distributor in Canada for the newsreel collections Actualités Gaumont and Pathé Journal, which were produced from 1896 to 1980. Gaumont Pathé will distribute NFB’s collections in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy and Spain.
“We’re excited about this partnership, which offers us a way of complementing our historical collections as well as adding new contemporary trends,” says Manuela Padoan, the director of Gaumont Pathé Archives. “This alliance is the first step of our international strategy to develop key partnerships around the world.”
Jacques Bensimon, the Government Film Commissioner and NFB’s chairperson, added, “This partnership agreement offers tremendous benefits to both organizations. At the National Film Board of Canada, we’re more focused than ever on global markets. This new deal offers us a way to increase our presence in Europe and provide our existing clients with important new product.”
