FOCAL International Announces Winner of Archive Based Programme Pitching Competition

'All The Way From Over There' pitched by Jody VandenBurg, Domenico Favata and Naomi de Pear was announced as the winner of FOCAL International's Archive Based Programme Pitching Competition at the footage trade association's annual Christmas networking party, yesterday evening in London.

From a record 39 pitches from ten countries covering Factual, Historical, Dramatic and New Media genres, the jury at Spring Films had a difficult time narrowing down the entries.

"In just its second year, FOCAL International and Spring Films were delighted to receive a very significant number of entries of an extremely high standard for the pitching competition," said Richard Melman, Executive Producer of Spring Films.

"After much discussion and debate we settled on one winning idea that was both humorous and insightful and we are delighted to be working with Jody VandenBurg, Domenico Favata, Naomi de Pear from Tunnel Films on their project "All the Way from Over There". It’s a fascinating and creative look at the sadly short, but remarkable life of Malcolm Hardee - agent, manager, club-owner and anarchic prankster."

On receiving the good news, Jody VandenBurg said, "Dom, Naomi and I are so pleased and excited to have been selected for the competition, and particularly surprised given the fierce competition as this is a huge passion project for us. It’s very fitting too, as the whole thing started when we came across a a very rare, unique piece of archive footage. Comedian, Stewart Lee wrote that “In any decent country Malcolm Hardee would be a national institution”, so we started this journey as comedy fans acknowledging an unsung hero. Now we find ourselves telling a tragicomic story of a mercurial life, that teaches us of both the joys and the consequences of having no fear, not worrying about tomorrow and living for the moment. We really appreciate Spring Filmsand FOCAL International's enthusiasm and help towards getting the film made."
